'A chilling sci-fi chamber piece.'

About 'Adrift'

Eli drifts hopelessly through deep space with only ADA, the ship’s artificial intelligence, for company. In the pair's need for physical companionship, how far are they willing to go?

As Eli struggles to cling to life, Ada goes to extreme lengths to find what it means to live.

Eleven months ago, a catastrophic accident killed the crew of the S.S. Glade. Sole survivor Eli Bowers tries desperately to cling to some semblance of routine. Instead, the days bleed drunkenly into one, consumed by loneliness and an agonising desire for human connection. ADA provides comfort from afar, trying to keep Eli from succumbing to his dire circumstances when an unexpected opportunity presents itself.

Upon finding a body inside an escape pod, ADA offers to take control of its form allowing them to be together at last.

Except Eli knows this mystery woman. An old, complicated flame: Amanda Carter.

For fans of sci-fi classics like Black Mirror and Blade Runner, Adrift is a piece of thrilling new writing delivering “an emotionally charged story of desperation…unnervingly drawing on reality in its conflicts.” (The Reviews Hub).

This stripped back, chilling chamber piece is a true love letter to dystopian sci fi, illustrating “the lengths a person will go to, to return back to some form of humanity: no matter what the cost” (Fringe Review).

With “the speed of a quiet thriller” (LondonPubTheatres) Adrift dissects the human psyche and asks important questions regarding artificial intelligence and humanity, the objectification of female identifying individuals, and the commodification of sex.

Adrift first appeared on stage as part of East 15’s Debut festival in 2023. With a considerable budget, the production support was vast: full set, projection, lighting and sound design (even our very own cryostasis pod!)

The poster? Our version of ‘The Creation of Adam’, comprising of a scavenged corrugated pipe and shredded old charger wires, can be more accurately named ‘The Creation of ADA’

We’ve graduated! We sign up for Camden Fringe and are lucky enough to be programmed at the aptly named Cockpit Theatre. Our set and props are minimal, focussing funds into customizing our costumes (using the same wires and pipe we used in our first poster!).

We were lucky enough to be funded for this run through an outpouring of support on our Click Crowdfunding campaign. This allowed us to cover numerous production costs, print posters and flyers for the first time, hire a photographer, and pay ourselves!

From The Cockpit to The Space: we’re certainly on brand. It was here where we played with our staging, going from an end on configuration to deep thrust, allowing the audience a closer glimpse into the characters lives. It was also here where we recieved most of our shining reviews, and an Offcomm award!

This moment captured by Charles Flint is one of our favourites. The moment where ADA is falling in love with life and Eli is falling for her. A beautiful moment shining amongst the murky waters of the rest of the play.
